Hiking
Hikers can explore nature on countless hiking trails around Kaltern.
Kaltern's local mountain, the Mendola, can be reached by foot, by bike, by car or with the longest and steepest funicular in Europe.
The Mendel funicular covers a height difference of 850m with a gradient of 64% in 12 minutes.
The gorge between Altenburg and the Kaltern lake is called Rastenbachklamm. The gorge can be hiked through via stairs and bridges in about 2 hours.
The nearby Dolomites also offer many a challenge for alpine hikers.
In winter, the surrounding ski resorts, which can be reached by car or bus, offer some opportunities to have a good romp on the slopes.
